Present Moment Exercise
Let’s try a simple exercise to allow ourselves to be present in the moment
Place yourself in a comfortable position, whether it is sitting or lying down.
You can close your eyes or focus your glance to an object or point on the ground. Make any adjustments you may need to remain comfortable, alert, and relaxed.
Draw your attention to your breath – to the speed, the rise in the chest and stomach, coolness of the inhale, or the warmth of the exhale as it passes through the nose.
Simply, count each breath silently in your pace until you reach the count of ten.
PAUSE…
Feel the sensation spread across your body as you melt further into this calmness.
Bring your attention to your body,
Taking a brief scan, starting with the top of your head and scanning in each part of your body. Recognize and appreciate each part, movement, and physical abilities.
To show your appreciation, silently say thank you every time something comes to mind.
Take this next moment or so to appreciate your body and the pulse of being alive. Be in the present moment.
PAUSE…
Tell yourself, thank you for allowing me to be here in the present. Now, you can open your eyes or avert your attention back to the task on hand.
