Social Media Policy
We love to be connected with our clients and we really appreciate you following us on social media. However, our therapeutic relationship is really important to us. This is why we have the following policy. Your privacy is very important to us.
Social Media: No friend requests on our personal social media outlets (Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) will be accepted by current or former clients. If you choose to comment on our professional social media pages or posts, you do so at your own risk and may breach confidentiality. We cannot be held liable if someone identifies you as a client. Posts and information on social media are meant to be educational and should not replace therapy. Please do not contact us through any social media site or platform. They are not confidential, nor are they monitored, and may become part of a medical record.
Friending: To respect your privacy and confidentiality, your therapist does not accept friend requests from current or former clients on their personal Facebook page or any social networking site.
Fanning: You may “like” your therapist’s Facebook business page. However, the information on their Facebook page is often on their website as well. If you “like” this page, you are choosing to reveal that you are connected to the therapist in some way. Your therapist’s business page exists to be a forum of information and inspiration. Your therapist will not engage in conversations with you on that page.
Use of Search Engines: You may have a Facebook page or other social media accounts. Your therapist does not “google” clients or look up information on them for any reason. If your therapist does come across your information online they will move on and avoid reading the content.
Business Review Sites: Your therapist is listed on professional directory pages. Some of these sites include forums in which users rate and review their providers. Many of these sites comb search engines for business listings and automatically add listings regardless of whether the business has their listing is NOT a request for testimonial, rating, or endorsement from you as a client. The California Association of Marriage and Family Therapist’s Ethics Code states that it is unethical for therapists to solicit testimonials.
