Our Team

Sevil Gonen, LMFT 110795

Founder and CEO of Three Figs Counseling Center. She is a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (#110795) in Davis, CA. Currently, the practice is remote with limited in-person sessions, and we are able to offer clients telehealth sessions in the state of California.

My work with teens, adults, and couples is customized to the needs of my clients. I combine Emotion-focused therapy, Attachment-based therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral therapy as each client’s need differs.

I am a Perinatal Mental Health specialist and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. This passion grew after having my son and having a profound postpartum experience. This experience called me to help other moms, find connection, create space for healing themselves while caring for a little one, and create resources that support them in continuing to be moms. I specialize in supporting families through pregnancy loss, grief, birth trauma, parenting NICU babies, medically ill or special needs children, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, and adjusting to parenthood and partner conflicts after becoming parents. The journey to parenthood can be difficult, isolating, and all-encompassing, but you do not have to do it without support. I’d love to support you on your journey.

I am passionate about helping you find the healthiest version of yourself and creating a life in which you thrive. Past experiences, nagging feelings of anxiety or depression, or unhelpful habits can weigh us down and keep us from experiencing life to the fullest. I work with teens and adults to help resolve and cope with depression and anxiety, improve attachment patterns with loved ones, as well as heal from any trauma or past negative experiences. Coming into therapy as a teen can feel intimidating, and I work with you to build our relationship at your own pace. I also work with couples to help build emotional intimacy, understand attachment patterns, and improve communication skills.

I believe that past experiences play a role in shaping the way we show up in relationships, feel our emotions, and experience life as a whole. This is why I operate from a trauma-informed approach. I incorporate my training in Brainspotting to help you release emotions and belief patterns tied to past experiences, as well as expand positive emotions and experiences. I also use principles of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to give you powerful coping skills to deal with daily stressors or even the most intense distress. These skills are especially helpful to support you in your journey of processing trauma. It may feel intimidating to face the past, but it is only when we face the past that its power over us can be released, and we are truly free to create the life we want to live.

“Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional” -Buddha

Hello! I am so glad that you’re here and taking a step to improve your mental health. My work with adults is based on principles of acceptance, warmth, and normalizing the human experience. Beginning the therapeutic journey can feel daunting. I’m here to provide a safe and comfortable space to explore the areas you’re struggling with or looking to self-improve. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in counseling, therefore my commitment to my clients is to be authentic, genuine, and non-judgmental.

I support my clients by focusing on acceptance of circumstances, mindfulness, and skill-building. I work with clients experiencing anxiety, challenging family dynamics, and self-destructive behaviors. Have you ever found yourself hiding parts of yourself to appease others? Maybe you often change your behavior or personality traits depending on who you’re with. I am passionate about helping clients discover and explore their beliefs, and develop consistent, stable, identities. I integrate Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Client-centered therapy, and Family Systems therapy into my approach. It is deeply important to me to support you in the ways that you need and to help you cultivate a more fruitful life, whatever that means to you.

Your child might struggle to navigate a significant life change, such as separation, divorce, a move, or a change in schools or friend groups. You might worry they are doing too much or not enough. You might notice they are becoming distant or showing signs of anxiety and stress. You want them to feel supported but struggle to connect with them like you used to. Perhaps you fear that your unresolved childhood or relationship experiences adversely affect your parenting.

In our work together, we will explore your child’s strengths and challenges and develop skills to manage stress, overwhelm, and withdrawal. Simple mindfulness and emotional regulation techniques help your child learn to manage and express difficult feelings, which boosts their confidence and improves their relationships.

Support for couples and families begins by interrupting dysfunctional and painful cycles of behavior. We will explore underlying emotions and conflicts with compassion and courage, discovering new ways to interact and communicate that lead to closeness and authentic connection.

Clients share that my warm, nonjudgmental, collaborative attitude fosters a sense of trust that supports self-inquiry and growth in the ways that matter to them. My relational, trauma-informed, mind-body approach gently explores how our thoughts, beliefs, habits, behaviors, emotions, and feelings are connected.

Decades of experience teaching mindfulness and emotional regulation techniques in the Yogic tradition and my Counseling Master’s with an emphasis in Somatic Psychology inform my understanding of each individual’s unique and adaptive nervous system, the nature of suffering, and the potential for change.

I offer online psychotherapy services for children ages 12+, adults, family and couples therapy.
